ΣΥΝΤΟΜΗ ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ
The biomass production potential, particularly its quality and spatial dispersion play a crucial role in determining the feasibility of the whole agro-biofuel production chain. In this framework, the present work has aimed at mapping the biofuel production potential of Cyprus by examining and comparing several bioenergy crops of the three principle categories (sugar crops, starch crops, lignocellulosic agricultural residues). The major parameters affecting the crop yield and energy content are investigated. The land availability and production cost issues are discussed.
