ΣΥΝΤΟΜΗ ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ
The influence of the addition of silica nanoparticles (mean size 7nm) in the protective performance of a siloxane resin is evaluated. The binary composition film was tested on three different Greek marbles. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) images revealed the formation of micro- and nanostructures on the surface of the marbles. The polymeric coating allowed a substantial increase in water contact angle as it was increased up to 50% reaching a maximum value of 162 degrees and correspondingly made the marbles super-hydrophobic. The obtained results are examined in light of the Wenzel and Cassie-Baxter model.
